Big Big News Fig. 1

August 27, 2008

we finished recording a new EP, “Once Loved/Twice Bitten” about 5 days ago, then totally forgot about it and went to watch lots of real bands at that music festival in bramham park, however, i remembered, so i’m going to tell you all about it.

the recording process entailed : tom moorcroft, cups of tea, spraying each other in the eyes with air freshener, playing football, lovingly recording guitar tracks only to delete them all and start again, mugging each other off, looking at readers wives, “magic beans”, remote control helicopters, 4 days to record one set of vocals, our best reading voices and never turning up on time.

we are pleased with how it has turned out, but are far more interested in what you lot think of it, thats why there are two new songs on our page now for you to absorb and pretend you know all the words to (or actually learn them if you are that sad) when we play live, which coincidentally we are going to be doing alot more of now when we manage to tear ourselves away from the homely moorcroft studios.

if you are in a position to arrange for us to play “rock concerts” we’d really appreciate it if you could get in touch!

message us if you would like a copy but i reccomend saving your money and going to watch fucked up in bradford tonight instead.

First blog, I feel I need to say something special or just stupid, which is no doubt as I am garbage at stuff like this! I apologize in advance for spelling errors and poor use of grammar!

So we’re recording for our ‘EP’ if you would call it that, on Tuesday. It should be a lot of fun, if we don’t go wrong and get frustrated with each other! So when we get that sorted we’re on about doing proper CD’s not just CD-R’s which to be fair are shit! Looks tones better when we don’t scrawl ‘YB’ on the top of the CD and it looks like we put effort into it (although I would like to stress that a lot of bloody sweat and tears go into making everyone of our CD’s at current!)

Also its was Steve’s birthday other day so you should all go and say hi and happy birthday and add a little cheeky kiss too (if you’re a bloke), he’ll like that, promise!

And on a final note, go listen to Brand New and be happy about it!

I’m trying to sue the supermarket

July 2, 2008

I always wondered why we use WordPress and not Blogspot, Stephen informs me this is ‘because it looks loads nicer, its easier to blog and blogspot is for homos :)’, I guess that’ll suffice as a reason for now.

This is my first blog, and its really hard to judge length and how it will look on the page. I’m endlessly searching for a preview button. I can’t find one, so I guess I’ll just soldier on regardless, and hope I don’t put too many spaces in or end my paragraphs prematurely.

With this being a band blog, I’ll try and keep you up to date on whats happening with the band. We set out to have a practice on Tuesday, and ended up writing a new song. For the moment its called Toothache, but how long that name will stick is a mystery. Namely because I don’t like it, but for the moment the Sun and Fish Finger Butties haven’t offered a nicer alternative. I think that it’ll get changed to something more abstract, because we’re arty for the sake of being arty.

Played last night, and we had a really good time. We had our FIRST technical difficulty, with Liams bass amp cutting out half way through White Star Line, and it put us off a bit. But we got throught it, and redid the song much better the second time. The night then descended into chaos, as Joe Beaumont drunk himself into a stupor, whilst the band looked on, occasionally buying him another drink and laughing mirthlessly at his antics.

We all then (as if it’s not the norm) headed back to Louis/Will’s house for a good nights kip and a bang up breakfast in the morning. Neither was atained, with Stephen not been my most desired company for the night. George in the Horse Den, and Louis/Will in their respective rooms. If you’re wondering, Liam bailed for a free lift home earlier in the evening, but he’s still got school so its all fair. Though, to annoy him, we all got free lifts home with girls. (Girls was a necessary addition to that sentence).

We arose and went to get the gear (after spotting Liam on a bench and shouting wildly at him), but little did we realise Dewsbury is so busy! The Market Place was bustling, and we got some dodgy looks for the positions of our parked cars not to mention for the position of Wills boxer shorts relative to his trouserline.

Kit packed and back home.

If you read all that, you’ll realise I didn’t shower in any of it. So I think I’ll go do that now. After proof reading, naturally.

PS. Now I’m looking to ‘publish’ this. I found the preview button.  It’s big and it says Preview on it.

It Never Pains, It Roars.

June 26, 2008

I feel like there is a dementor (hp) outside my window, on account of the torrential downpour, so i’m doing a small written account of where the band is at, at the moment and what we’re hoping to do in the future

there’s plenty of ideas for half-birthed tunes, they’ll be heavy/clean, loud/twinkly, dancey/thoughtful.

we’ve been playing “itchy blood” alot recently (it’s our favourite), with a view to having it recorded alongside a rework of the now classic (jokes) white star line, these recordings are hopefully going to act as a more faithful representation of our sound as it stands, including our keyboard player and all the daft guitar noises we’ve started using.

we want to play as far away from home as possible, as soon as possible. if you think you could help out with that, without charging us like 50 quid to play or booing about CD-R’s, contact us through this internet, thing, or ring me on 01924 501439, in much the same way, we are well up for getting bands up here playing and stealing all our fans, so let us know if you’re up for that.

go and watch trapped under ice (www.myspace.com/underdaice) next week, they got robbed in europe somewhere and could do with the support, regardless, they are one of the hardest bands out for years and deserve your money.

keep listening to clockcleaner, oh yeah and jawbreaker.

Did you know, Marcus’ Dad got stabbed?

June 15, 2008

So, we’ve been excited for this gig for quite a long time with an air of anxiety surrounding us. Wanting to impress, yet feeling quietly confident we’d put on a good show. The morning got off to a good start as we enterted the bathroom to find Kate and will half naked sprawled across the floor. Although not undertaking in some explicit scenario as predicted, we watched whilst Will got his hair (it’s fabulous I must add) dyed black. This however led to Me, louis and horse becoming increasingly restless. Marcus then had a momentary lapse in common sense and so forth dyed a cross into the back of his head. After realising what he had actually done Horse proceeded to pin Louis down and destroy his Golden locks with, and I quote Stephen here, ‘An Avenged Sevenfold fringe’

The tragic happenings of the night before somewhat put a hault to our festivities, but doing want our band does best, we were insensitive and went to visit liam in Superdrug. After the purchase of some American style chicken nuggets, gazing into Liams black eye and buying some CDs we proceeded back to Big Kevs and Lyndas to burn some Demos. Anyways, 4.30 past, and so did 5 until we finally decided to set off and on arrival we were met by a Bill Bailey look-a-like and his apprentice. Upon realisation that the venue was quite big nerves began to set, a few renditions of Magnets later and we were back at the Jones household for what can only be described as the best Fishcake sandwich ever.

First of all, Id like to say how sound the other band was and that even though the music lacked originality we still had a right good time. The gig went well with Marcus once again throwing himself on the floor, wrapped in the Mic lead as Stephen looked on afraid his power lead may come out( it had to be done Duffy, i’m sorry). Cement lasted about 7 hours and itchy blood may have sounded a tad better if my Keyboard wasnt on the lowest volume settting but nonetheless I think we had a good show. Free beer, accompanied by the loves of our lives (friends and family alike) and people becoming accustomed to the radical new hairstyles of two members of the band, what more could we ask for?

Thanks to Liams Mum and Dad for letting us go round afterwards, to Rammy-the crazy bastard running about dancing to ‘Victims of Arseholes’ and to (how cliched) the ‘fans’ who bothered to show up.

“I’m Bloggin’ Out”

June 8, 2008

Last night was a blast!

Eternal Peace to :

  • Jamie and his mum for having us on again!
  • Kev for sorting our lives out as always.
  • Behringer PA system for not shitting the bed at the last minute.
  • People who danced!

Last night was our “live debut” (how good does that sound) with our new keyboard player, George “G MAN” Hughes, he was ace so fuck the haters!  we also had a crack at a new tune called “Itchy Blood” which is about pens running out of ink and black flag, needless to say, its a banger.

Post-gig, we went back to Stephens, where he not only provided warm beds but also massive LOL’s by chatting just about as much shit as it is scientifically possible for one person to do so in the space of what? 20 minutes?

highlights include : him getting mad and telling us that he was “bigger” than all of us because he played in a band that played with a band that did a split with Gallows (LOL WHAT?!) as though this was some sort of conclusive proof that he had balls size XXL and would soon be appearing on MTV Cribs. To be fair to the lad, i think alot of this might have had something to do with rose wine but, well played nonetheless!

we’re really keen on doing alot of small shows and getting drunk this summer, so if you need a band for a house party, or have a house for a band party, write me a letter, stalk us on the internet, phone me (girls only) or come and call for us to see if we’re lecking out.

oh yeah, we’re playing for a Battle Of The Bands at The Mead Hall in Cleckheaton, above The George/Turnstiles this coming Saturday, which promises to be a really good night. The guy behind this is legit, trying his hardest to push all sorts of live music in our area for FREE, taking care of bands and making sure everyone has a laugh! this is definately a breath of fresh air in a world of ” so and so dodgy death metal promotions” and top notch wankers lining their own pockets. we’re gonna play a few covers, all our new songs and have a good time, seen as exams are pretty much over, come show your face!

In the meantime, listen to : Clockcleaner, Bombay Bicycle Club and The Shitty Limits.

An “Intresting” Night…

May 31, 2008

A night which started innocently enough with a simple band practice at Moorcroft.

For those who’ve been kept in the dark (most of you) we have a new addition to the band! His name is George and he’s cool as fuck if we’re being honest. He’s got some rad keyboard parts and we’ll keep this and our myspace updated as to when he’ll actually play live with us. Needless to say, we’re all exited as to the possibilities another talented and good looking musician could bring to the band.

After working on our new song (“ooooh!” i hear you cry) for a while in appalingly hot conditions we decided enough was enough, promptly didn’t pay the man and went upon our merry way.

The Royal (home to the Heckmondwike Panthers i’m unreliably informed) called us, and we answered, relishing their range of refreshing beverages, discussing both obscene and obscure topics and enduring constant false assusations of “You’re not even the band yet, George!” from a lanky, balding frontman who shall remain unnamed.

It wasn’t long before our wild side got the better of us (only joking, it was cause that place was full of some questionable folk) and we headed out to see our good friend, the park at the bottom of Dale Lane.

Chaos, Good Times and Storys that should have never been told reigned supreme and to look at you would have never have guessed that we had accepted a new face into our intimate circle.

Three bottles of Vodka, Gin and several “Tinnies” later and our usually quiet and somewhat reserved Crooner had turned into… well…

I don’t think i’ll delve into what was in that glass.

Anyways, a good night was had by most

On another note, we ARE playing at The Woodman next saturday. The booze is both plentiful and cheap and you can be “entertained” by us and The Tabbs all free of charge! We’d love it if you could come down and have a listen and a natter.

That is all from me in my first (and lengthy) update. I apologise if i’ve made any spelling or grammar mistakes.

Thanks for reading!

Long time..

May 29, 2008

..No speak. A week infact. I don’t think there are any major updates to report, well, not yet anyway. And a post with no photographs? madness.

Everyones at home ‘revising’(in the sun) and i’m stuck at college in a stuffy mac suite with a god-awful air conditioning unit. Fun.

I think i’m right in saying we have a gig next Saturday night at the woodman pub in Leeds (it’s really close to the white rose centre) which you should all come down to because it wont cost a penny to get in. There may also have been some interesting developments band-wise then too, certainly new songs on display anyway.

I got the Tubelord demo through the post the other day and it came with a free mp3 CD Sampler from Big Scary Monster Records. Well i thank Tubelord for chucking it in because it’s let me on to some really class bands i never even knew existed! Check out the catalogue of bands on that label, there’ll be links on their Myspace page probably.

Tokyo Police Club are playing the Cockpit in town on Saturday night, anyone off? i think we are;)

In a bit,

Stephen x.

We have a new baby..

May 22, 2008

However it’s older than all of us, at 22 years old.

Messing about with it last night and got some really nice sounds out of it,

so we’ll see, might play a part in some new songs 😉

15.05//16.05//17.05

May 18, 2008

I think it’s safe to say we’ve had quite a good weekend.

Thursday night we wrote the majority of a new song, which we’re all quite excited about. It’ll be done soon, you’ll get the chance to hear it when we next play i imagine. (Incentive or what?)

Friday we played with The Tabbs and some other band down at the Black Bull pub in Dewsbury. The PA was pretty poor but apart from that it was a really fun gig! I’ll let you see for yourselves..

(Cheers to Dom for the photos, and cheers to Lev for putting us on.)
